LAYOGA January/February
2006, Vol. 5/ No. 1, p. 44 Arison seeks to meet the needs of
the mother’s postnatal practice while offering soothing audiovisual
entertainment for young babies. The DVD contains three segments: Yoga
Ma, Baby Ga, and the two together. In Yoga Ma, Arison instructs a 55-minute
routine suitable for postpartum women. Her instructions are clear and
include cautions for women post-C-section (do sphinx instead of cobra)
and techniques for regaining strength (gentle abdominal exercises). Baby
Ga features images ranging from coral reefs to smiling babies and a soundtrack
that includes Bach and ocean waves. While mothers can use either segment
alone, Yoga Ma Baby Ga fills the screen with distractions for baby while
a window features visual and auditory instruction in the yoga routine.
The DVD is a unique addition to a media collection, offering something
to both mother and baby. Toddlers may be entranced by the images more
than infants, but either would be calmed by the melodious soundtrack.
